Do you know how some people hate going to the dentist? Well, I’m not one of those! I try to go at least every six months, you know, like they recommend. If ever I do not get to go, it’s because I’ve been busy, not that I am scared of going to the dentist. And you know what, I have built a really good rapport with my dentist and whenever I go, he asks me about the frugal lifestyle I had told him about years earlier. He knows about it because I had asked him once if I could get more than one of those toothpaste samples that are available at the dentist. so I did tell him about other ways I am frugal and that is how our 6-monthly conversations started.

Anyway, when it was time for my last visit to the dentist in April, I had to be reminded because somehow I had forgotten. So I was in a taxi going to an appointment when I had a telephone call and it came up as ‘Dentist’. It clicked right away in my head that I had forgotten my appointment and that was the reason for the call. But you would think it would be the receptionist calling, right? Wrong! It was the dentist himself! When I said ‘hello’, the voice boomed back ‘Hello. This is your friendly dentist who has promised to take out your missing tooth and fill the gap|”
I could not stop laughing! I was not even able to respond to him right away! So after I had settled down some, I was able to say: ‘Well if I can get a dozen free toothpaste and a complimentary toothbrush then you can remove my missing tooth!’
At that point, he retorted: ‘Here, speak to the receptionist’. The next voice that came on, through my laughter was the pleasant June who assured me that the dentist was mad so I should excuse him, but that yes I had missed my appointment for earlier that day. I apologized and asked If I could please have an appointment if anyone cancelled later that day as I would be free for the rest of the day. June was her usual awesome self and I was able to get an appointment for 2:00 pm that same day. I still chuckle each time I remember.
So as I waited for my turn to sit in the dentist chair I thought about him planning to remove my missing tooth and I chuckled inwardly. Well when I went in and we greeted each other, I asked him about the plan he had for me. With a stern face, he retorted: ‘what plan?’ So I reminded him about what he had said to me earlier. He was stone-faced, and denied ever saying any such thing! I know him to be a joker but as so many people were waiting in reception to be seen, I let him carry on with my cleaning and didn’t bother him too much!
Cleaning done, I went back out to pay June and to book my next appointment. So as I was about to leave, I said thanks to her for fitting me in at such short notice. She was not sure what I was talking about and told me that my appointment was booked from 6 months before. I had to do a double take. What was all this joking on the phone from the dentist and then her coming on the line to sort out the last minute appointment for me? Was I getting crazy? Was I imagining things? She knew not what I was going on about and the area was getting full of waiting patients so I said my goodbye.
This was certainly a bizarre encounter! I was baffling my brain! At about 5:15 pm that same day, I had a phone call from ‘dentist’. I knew the voice! It was him! He said ‘Got ya!’ And then I got it. It was April 1, and I was pranked! I was truly fooled. I’ve got a plan! Roll on April 1st next year!

I love the fact that my mouth is extra clean when I come out of the dentist. I feel saintly.
I have just had to have 2 molars extracted which took nearly an hour.I wish I had looked after my teeth better when I was younger.
I hate going to the dentist as I have had a few fillings and hate the injections to numb my mouth beforehand! I have to admit, I do often cancel my 6 monthly checkups just because I hate going so much!
We do understand the fear. I hope you pluck up the courage soon.
im terrified of the dentist ive not been for ten years and a fillig fell out two weeks ago im in agony but need the movtivation to go get it sorted!
I wish you luck with winning the giveaway.
The only thing I hate about going to the dentist is the big bill at the end. It makes a total mockery of our "free at the point of use" NHS.
I quite understand what you mean! It's laughable.
I absolutely hate the dentist I do whatever I can to stay away!
Would love to win this
I went to the dentist last week as an emergency appointment and I was absolutely petrified and I had to wait an hour to be seen. However, when I went in I was met by two very nice ladies and despite me being so petrified I was shaking they managed to bring a little humour to my appointment and were very caring and did a great job for me.
great giveaway
Not too keen on the dentist I do go but would rather not
